A friend for life

Adopt a cat

In our sanctuary we take care of more than 500 animals,
would you like to meet those looking for adoption?

Adoption fees

From the moment we take in a rescued animal, we assume all the maintenance costs, but we greatly appreciate the collaboration of the future families with the costs of basic veterinary expenses. This is how we can continue rescuing and helping.

¿Not from Seville?

Don’t worry, there are ways you can adopt a kitten from our shelter as there are specific animal transport companies that could get it to you.

Information about cats up for adoption

  • Many of the kittens that live in the La Candela Sanctuary are positive for calcivirus* but are controlled and without symptoms.
  • To control contagion, when adopting a positive kitten in Calcivirus should preferably live in a home where there are no other cats. Nor could it go outside to prevent it from infecting other cats until it is 100% recovered.
Before adopting a kitten, you can write to us at refugelacandela@gmail.com, we will send you all the necessary information about the positive kittens and those that do not. along with their needs.
  • *Calcivirus is a highly contagious and common disease in cats. The main symptoms are runny nose, gingivitis and mouth ulcers. It is a very resistant virus and difficult to eradicate, it can take from weeks to months to fully recover. It is transmitted by direct contact between cats or through humans by petting infected cats and not washing their hands. Feline calicivirus comes in a wide variety of strains, which means a cat can be infected many times in its lifetime, just like humans who get colds over and over again.
  • It’s It is a common misconception that cats will never get rid of FVC once infected. Furthermore, in the case of a first infection in a sensitive animal, the cat may or may not show clinical signs. After this phase, the virus continues to be eliminated for a few weeks to several months, but in most cases it is eventually cured. This is especially true if the animal lives alone and is not infected again.
For cats that live with other cats, the problem is that the virus circulates and the cats are constantly re-infected (either through contact with other cats or through the contaminated environment, as the virus is resistant in the external environment).
  • Always remember: A cat that lives alone and is infected with calicivirus should eliminate the virus completely after a few weeks or a few months.
